Your Now is preparing you for your later

How did I become an entrepreneur, you ask? Well first and foremost, it’s in my blood. My grandfather and all of his children and many of their children (including me) have owned businesses. I think I’ve been an entrepreneur in some form since I was a kid. Whether it was selling Krispie Kreme donuts outside of the Walmart for a church function, or writing my own children’s stories and entering into writing contests as a 3rd and 4th grader. In some capacity, I’ve always had a go-getter, entrepreneurial spirit. Quite frankly, I never imagined being anything else (career wise) except for a career that allowed me to be independent from a quote on quote 9-5. As a kid, I wanted to be a fashion designer, an actress, a talk show host and a lawyer…only because I wanted to wear cute pant and skirt suits. LOL

I truly believe that everything you do is preparing you for your next season. My first official business was Creative Purposes, a wedding and event planning company. But flashback to 2009/2010 when I was in graduate school at UNCC for Elementary Education: I had to be super organized and have every detail planned out for my classroom.  That skill came in handy as a wedding planner. During that time, I also worked at the Guess Store at Northlake Mall in Charlotte. My manager didn’t want me to leave because of how great I was at my job…the customer service, my efficiency, how great I folded the jeans lol. That position prepared me for HBCU Legacy Fashion. During that same time, I also worked as a host at Olive Garden. I had two part time jobs, a full time internship and a full load of graduate school classes. That season taught me about working hard and doing my best. It also taught me that I need to make sure I rest. I’m not sure what you’re doing right now in your life, but please don’t despise your small beginnings. Everything is just preparation for your elevation.
