Here’s A Quick Story Of How I Became An Entrepreneur

Well first and foremost, it’s in my blood. My grandfather and all of his children and many of their children (including me) have owned businesses. I think I’ve been an entrepreneur in some form since I was a kid. Whether it was selling Krispie Kreme donuts outside of the Walmart for a church function, or writing my own children’s stories and entering into writing contests as a 3rd and 4th grader, in some capacity, I’ve always had a go-getter, entrepreneurial spirit. Quite frankly, I never imagined being anything else (career wise) except for a career that allowed me to be independent from a quote on quote 9-5. As a kid, I wanted to be a fashion designer, an actress, and a talk show host.
My first official business was a wedding and event planning company. This is a picture of me back in 2013 taken by a fellow Aggie business owner @relnice06 at The Sheraton in Chapel Hill. I’d planned a baby shower, and ended up being the emcee/host that day. I truly believe that everything you do is preparing you for your next season. When I was in graduate school at UNCC for Elementary Education, I had to be super organized and have every detail planned out for my classroom. That skill came in handy as a wedding planner. During that time, I also worked at the Guess Store at Northlake Mall in Charlotte. My manager didn’t want me to leave because of how great I was at my job…the customer service, my efficiency, how great I folded the jeans lol. That position prepared me for @HBCULegacyFashion. Tonight I will discuss my entrepreneurial journey and how everything I’ve been through has prepared me for where I am today. I hope to see you there!
